ABSTRACT:

The Popular and Solidarity Economy (PSE) is emerging as an important paradigm in light of the failure of traditional economic models to address inequality and unsustainable global growth. In contrast, this high-impact study aims to systematically review the socioeconomic implications of the PSE and its catalytic capacity for sustainable development in the context of the 2030 Agenda. Articles published in indexed journals (Web of Science and Scopus) between 2015 and 2025 were analyzed through a systematic literature review (SLR) conducted using the PRISMA protocol. This method involved the use of an extensive flowchart to select the final sample. The main findings validate that EPS is an effective generator of decent employment and capital democratization (to promote gender equality and financial inclusion), while also actively contributing to environmental sustainability practices (e.g., circular economy and responsible consumption) by connecting the community and not competing for maximum profit. Solidarity organizations (production cooperatives) exhibited a lower internal Gini coefficient than capital companies. EPS is an indispensable strategic actor for a just economic transition. It is crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and this is especially true in the Global South, where it should be strengthened by public policies.
