ABSTRACT

Cerebral infarction constituted one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, leading to disability and high healthcare costs, which made the implementation of strategies aimed at optimizing early care necessary. In this context, the stroke code was applied as a care protocol designed to reduce diagnostic and treatment times in patients with suspected acute cerebrovascular events. The objective of this study was to analyze the efficacy of the application of the stroke code in the care of cerebral infarction. A scientific literature review was conducted through a systematic search of articles published in specialized health sciences databases, selecting relevant studies from recent years related to stroke code activation and its clinical outcomes. The results showed that the implementation of the stroke code was associated with a significant reduction in in-hospital care times, an increase in timely access to reperfusion therapies, and an improvement in patient clinical outcomes. Additionally, a reduction in mortality and neurological sequelae was observed in healthcare centers where the protocol was applied systematically. It was concluded that the application of the stroke code was effective in optimizing the care of cerebral infarction, contributing to a faster and more coordinated healthcare response with a positive impact on patient prognosis.
